The Town of Orono seeks residents interested in serving on the Planning Board. There are currently two Associate Member seats available. One of the key functions of the Planning Board is to review projects that are required to go through the site plan review or subdivision review process. The Planning Board reviews these projects to make sure that they are consistent with the goals and standards of the Town’s ordinances. This is an important review process that can verify the Town is being developed in a way that aligns with its goals. Another important function of the Planning Board is to review Land Use Ordinance amendments and make recommendations to the Town Council based on the consistency of the amendment with the existing criteria the Planning Board uses to review projects. This helps to make sure that any new land use policy drafted aligns well with other ordinances and review processes. The Planning Board is made up of a total of 9 members, 7 regular and 2 associate. The associate members are able and encouraged to participate in all meetings, however, are only asked to vote when a regular member is absent. Planning Board members come from a variety of fields and backgrounds. This variety creates a Board that is able to review items from multiple different perspectives. Please consider volunteering on this important board. Your input makes a difference!
