[ARCHIVED] Town Council Vacancy, Nomination Papers Available August 14th

DECLARED VACANCY FOR ORONO TOWN COUNCIL SEAT

The Town Council held a Special Meeting on Monday, July 31st to accept the resignation from Councilor, Clint Relyea.  Mr. Relyea had accepted an employment opportunity in another state and will be moving from Orono.  During the meeting, the Town Council expressed its gratitude to Mr. Relyea for his time in office, serving Orono’s residents.  As a result of the resignation, a declared vacancy has been recorded and a Special Municipal Election called for November 7, 2017 to fill the remainder of this term which expires in March 2019.

NOMINATION PAPERS AVAILABLE ON AUGUST 14TH

Nomination papers for the declared vacancy will be available on Monday, August 14th at the Town Office and must be returned no later than 4:30 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2017.

In order to qualify for the declared vacant Town Council seat, a person must:

  • Reside within the Town of Orono; and
  • be a registered Maine voter.

Nomination papers are a legal document recorded in the town office which allows a candidate to be placed on a municipal ballot, once certified by the Municipal Clerk.  Prior to being certified for acceptance, the nomination paper must list the declared vacancy, be signed by the candidate, and then circulated within the town for the collection of registered voters signatures and notarized.  At least 25, but no more than 100, signatures of Orono voters are required to have a name placed on the municipal ballot.

For questions about the nomination process, please contact Town Clerk/Registrar, Shelly Crosby at 866-2556.
