If you need to apply for:

Or if you need to pay a permit fee or request an inspection, follow the link below to the Orono Code Enforcement Office's online portal.
When filling out a portal permit:
- All applicants must fill out the General Information section at the top of the form. Make sure to select the type of permit for which you are applying. Then you may scroll to the appropriate section for the type of permit you’re applying for and enter all the relevant information.
- If you are applying for more than one type of permit, you will need to fill out the form multiple times. Please do not include information for two permits on one submission.
- If you are submitting a building permit for an addition or for the construction of a new structure on the property, you need to submit a sketch or engineering plan for the Code Officer to review. You can submit your documentation by using the "upload document" button at the end of the application form. If you are unsure what sort of documentation to include, please contact us at 207-889-6909.

Applying for a Septic Permit
If you need to apply for a septic permit, you must fill out the following form before submitting your application in the portal.

Once your Site Evaluator and/or Engineer have signed off on the above form, proceed to the Orono Code Enforcement Offices online portal and follow the on screen instructions to upload and submit your application.

Payment of Fees: Once your application has been received, our office will assign your permit any applicable fees and email you at the address provided in your application to let you know that you are now able to pay through the portal. Just follow the simple on screen instructions. Once payment has been received, you will be issued your permit. If you need to discuss alternative payment options, or have questions about the portal, please call Jessica Chadbourne at 207-889-6906.

To submit paper/PDF forms: Please complete the above forms and then follow the directions at the top of the page to access the online permit application form. Select the correct type of permit from the drop down information, fill out the general information section, then scroll to the bottom of the page to upload your application form.
If you are unable to upload your signed form because you do not have access to a scanner you can drop it off at the Town Office during business hours (Mon-Thurs 7:30-5:30), or in the drop box outside the front door after hours. Please be sure to write "Code Enforcement" on the envelope.

Adding Fill
A permit is required when adding more than 20 cubic yards of fill to a property. Applications for these permits can be obtained from the Code Office.

Building
Building permits are required for all new construction, including homes, garages and additions to existing structures (decks, porches, etc.), and for demolition purposes.

Curb Cuts
A permit is required to cut an entrance (driveway) onto a town road. Applications for these permits can be obtained at the Town Code Office, but must be approved by the Town Road Commissioner.

Electrical
Electrical permits are required for any changes to service entrances, for adding wiring to a structure, and for repairs or upgrades to existing services.

Heating
Heating permits are required when installing or replacing a heating unit, and when adding additional heating units including gas or wood burning stoves.

Home Occupations
A permit is required to operate a business in your home. Applications for these permits can be obtained from the Code Office, and then must be reviewed for approval by the Orono Planning Board.

Plumbing

Road Openings
A permit is required to open up a road for the hooking up of utilities (water, sewer, electricity, gas, etc.). These permits can only be obtained by a licensed contractor.

Sewer Hookups
A permit is required when connecting to the town sewer lines. These permits are obtained at the Town Code Office.
