Notice to Residents: Curbside Pickup

Please be advised that Public Works staff continue to make curb side pick ups of bagged leaves and brush.

Bagged leaves should be placed curbside next to any unwanted brush and tree limbs. 

Limbs should be less than 6 inches in diameter and at least four feet, but not more than eight feet in length.  They should be stacked with the broadest end facing the curb.

Brush should be neatly piled curbside.

Chunks and/or blocks of wood, as well as stumps, will not be picked up.  Unbagged...

Sewer Flushing

Water Pollution Control Facility

The Orono WPCF will begin sewer flushing operations on May 22nd. These will continue until our goal of flushing 2/3 of the sewer lines in Orono is accomplished. This amounts to roughly 14 miles of pipe. This is done to prevent sewer backups and to keep everything flowing. Please bear with us as there could be some traffic disruptions. If you have any problems call us at 866-5069.

Now that summer is almost here (!), we are gearing up for some diverse "reading" opportunities.  Not only is our print collection ever growing,and patrons have the opportunity to download eBooks and audiobooks for free from our website, we also have audiobooks on cds AND Playaways to enjoy books on the go. 

What's a Playaway? - an entire book preloaded on an all-in-one portable listening device.  You just plug in your earphones, press the POWER and PLAYAWAY buttons and enjoy.  Come on...

Do a little spring cleaning ORONO Style!

Two big clean up events are happening this Saturday in Orono -

Show up at the Town Office at 9am on Saturday to get some gloves and a trash bag to help with the Stream Clean Up effort - then enjoy a delicious BBQ! 

And between 8am-12pm on Saturday show up at the Steam Plant Parking lot near the UMaine campus to get rid of your e-waste for FREE!

May 17- Insect Adventures

Public Library

Join us on Saturday, May 17 from 10 to noon for a Friends of Edith Patch-sponsored creepy crawly bug program at the library.  Bug story time begins at 10:00, followed by bug crafts, insect collecting and bug inspecting activities at 10:30.  A free program for children and families.

STREET AND STREAM CLEANUP

Orono will hold its annual street and stream cleanup on Saturday, May 17th, RAIN or SHINE!  The day will start with meeting at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Town Office at 59 Main Street to form teams that will go to various areas of town for the cleanup.

At 11:30 a.m. everyone is to meet back at the fire station, where a BBQ will be held for all volunteers for helping out.
